Behind the Scenes: The Wine You Won’t Want to Miss & Harvest Preparations
If you’ve been tracking with us through social media, you may have seen the sneak peek at us bottling our coveted Grand Rouge. This Bordeaux style blend perfectly harmonizes Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Savignon and Petit Verdot.
This is exciting as we only make it in our very best years and haven’t made it since 2016. After aging in our French Oak barrels the last two years, it will now need to age in-bottle for at least six months to ensure it’s at its best. Soon as that happens, we’ll be hosting a release party here at the winery for those as excited as we are for this one to finally be available again. (Make sure you keep an eye out for that announcement as we’d love to see you here!)
Preparing for Harvest: The Countdown Begins
Once nets are rolled down, we turn our attention to washing lugs and fermentation bins so that they are cleaned and ready for the grapes!
There’s surely never a dull moment here at Grandview. As the last bottles are corked, we turn our attention back out into the fields. At this time of year, the birds LOVE to nab the fresh, ripening grapes. In kindly keeping them from doing so, we roll down the nets just before they’d make their way to our fields and put up our falcon kites around the vineyard (this tricks them into thinking that they’re avoiding predators around the vineyard).
Soon enough, these grapes will be ready for harvest. We love inviting guests to the vineyard to take part in harvest where each gets to experience the joy of hand-harvesting the grapes that will soon enough be barreled, bottled and ultimately enjoyed with their favorite people. As our way of saying “Thank You,” each will be gifted with a bottle of the wine previously made from the grapes they harvest. Be sure to keep an eye out on our social media and sign up for our newsletter as we will announce when the grapes are ready for us to take to the fields.
