Our Favorite Things of Fall: October at the Vineyard

It’s always been about togetherness.

As the cool autumn air pours into Grandview Vineyard, we love being deep in the heart of harvest season. Not just for seeing the fruits of our efforts but for the time and memories it allows us to enjoy as a family connecting with our community.

As we make our way into October, we have harvested our Albariño, Chardonnay, and Pinot Noir grapes. Handpicking each harvest is a lot of work but also a joy in the interactions we get to have with volunteers who come out to not only enjoy picking the grapes but also joining us for lunch and wine on the deck as we get to know one another better.

Perfection in the Process

Time is truly of the essence when it comes to winemaking. As the grapes reach peak ripeness, it’s time to not only get them harvested, but pressed and prepared for fermentation. As grapes are coming off the vines, they make their way into our coolers to await pressing.

From here, we quickly move them into the winery where they’re pressed. Scott tests the grapes for sugar content, pH, and acidity (and more), adds yeast for fermentation, conducts punchdowns and handles all the final preparations before the wine makes it’s way into either stainless tanks or barrels for aging.

Soon enough, the Albariño and Chardonnay will be ready to go into their own bottles, or blended to created our coveted Grande Blanc. Our Grande Blanc is a true favorite for good reason. It balances perfectly across all the notes we love in a good white.

Of course, what winery would be a winery without a delectable red? While these take longer than the whites, the cabernets always prove well worth the wait. Thankfully, you don’t have to wait the two to three years it will take for this year’s harvest to be ready as you can drop by and grab a bottle of our 2020-2021 harvests. As we come into Fall, these tend to be go-to’s for our regulars who love keeping their favorite reds on hand for all the many Autumn gatherings.

Speaking of Gatherings…

October is also the perfect time to visit the vineyard, where the harvest season coincides with our final weeks of the Wine by the Vine Music Series. Is it just us or does the combination of friends, hoodies and live music not just set the weekend off perfectly? If you haven’t joined us out on the deck for this season, believe, its a must! The invitation is open to non-wine-drinkers as well as we offer a selection of beer and mixed drinks, as well as food items on our menu.

We’re curious to know, what are your favorite Fall events?
