Spring Uncorked: What’s Happening at the Vineyard
After a long, and particularly COLD winter, the renewal brought about by Spring is well-welcomed. We love how it ever marks fresh beginnings and comes with incredible anticipation – especially for the growing season ahead.
At this point, the days are getting longer, the vines are waking up, and it’s the perfect time to transition into wines that reflect the lighter, brighter flavors of the season.
The Vineyard in Spring
Spring is a beautiful time to visit the vineyard as the landscape is shifting daily as the vines wake from winter dormancy and prepare to enter the growing season.
One of the most exciting moments in the vineyard each year is bud break. This is where tiny buds swell and burst open, revealing the earliest signs of the season’s grape clusters. This marks the start of a crucial phase, as each vine sets the fruit to become fall’s harvest.
For winemakers, spring is a time of careful attention. Late frosts can be a real risk. This is a time of watching the fields closely to safeguard these precious gems and ensure a healthy crop. But, for visitors, it’s a stunning time to see the vineyard’s transformation—rows of bare vines slowly filling in with lush, green growth, signaling the promise of what’s to come as our team works hard to make way for a promising vintage.
The Wines of the Season
Spring calls for wines that are crisp, refreshing, and effortlessly enjoyable. This is the time to reach for:
- 2023 Grande Blanc – A bright, citrusy Albariño-Chardonnay blend that pairs beautifully with fresh greens, grilled seafood, and warm evenings on the patio.
- 2022 Sun-Kissed Dry Rosé – Fresh and fruit-forward with a vibrant acidity that makes it perfect for picnics, goat cheese, and charcuterie.
- 2021 Twisted Tranquility – A smooth, easygoing red blend that transitions perfectly from winter’s bold reds to the softer, food-friendly wines of spring.
Spring at the Tasting Room
As the season unfolds, there’s no better way to enjoy it than with a glass in hand, surrounded by good company. Our deck will soon enough be coming back to life as we celebrate getting back outside with friends. Whatever the weather, the tasting room also makes for a great place to take in the view while we wait for evening temps to be reliably comfortable for outdoor seating. The picture windows surrounding this space give you a perfect view overlooking the vineyard.
